This Halloween, I went from beauty editor to next level neon clown, thanks to makeup artist and MYKITCO co-founder, James Molloy! Using expert artistry tips and techniques, James transformed me into the spookiest of clowns. If you’re tired of the typical cat makeup and want to serve up some serious glam, this is the look you need. Forget ordinary, this neon clown creation will make sure you steal the spotlight…
First things first, start with a flawless white base. While this might sound simple, we all know achieving that perfect, even coverage can be a challenge. But with the brand-new MY BOUNCE BLENDER, it becomes a breeze! James paired it with the MEHRON CLOWN WHITE FACE PAINT, ensuring a smooth, long-lasting finish that was both seamless and vibrant. Don’t rush here, the base needs to be immaculate to let the neon really pop. Once you’ve laid down your base, dust translucent powder over the face to set everything in place. You want to achieve a soft matte effect that is free of creasing.
Now for the fun part, the neon details! James used KRYOLAN PIGMENTS to bring the look to life, adding bold pops of neon on the eyes, lips, and nose. For the base, it’s important to use soft, fluffy brushes to get an even blend. James began with the 0.15 MY SOFT HIGHLIGHTER brush, perfect for applying pigment to larger areas without disturbing the base. For more precise detailing, like the tip of the nose and apples of the cheeks, he switched to the 1.29 MY SHEER BLENDER which targets smaller areas with precision.To amp up the colour intensity, James reached for the 1.28 MY FLAT BLENDER. While the rounded tips of the 0.15 and 1.29 helped achieve a softer blend, the flat edge of the 1.28 allowed him to build pigment without losing that softness, making it perfect for deepening the colour while maintaining a smooth base.
With so many intricate details in this makeup look, the 1.42 PRO - MY LONG LINER was an absolute must! Its super long, flexible fibres gave James the control needed to create elegant lines. This brush was an essential for adding the accents, such as the brows, lashes, and delicate star and heart designs. It allowed the brush to do the hard work, ensuring every detail looked sharp and polished.
