How I'm doing my festival makeup this season

BACK TO MY BLOG >

Festival season is upon us, and with the last few weekends of the festival season fast approaching I wanted to explore some inspiration…

Whether you’re a Kate Moss Glastonbury 2005 girly or a 2016 King Kylie Coachella queen, we can all appreciate a fabulous festival makeup. This year, my festival makeup inspiration has arrived in the form of Dua Lipa. Her headline set at Glastonbury consisted of costume changes, confetti cannons and one of the biggest crowd pulls of the weekend! Despite the on-stage drama, Dua opted for a toned down, smoky eye. The contrast in experimental outfits and minimal makeup is a trend I’ve seen a lot of this year. It feels like a contemporary take on the Sharon Tate Woodstock makeup, with tonal brown eyes but a flower power-esque outfit. As much as I love the natural makeup I’ve seen this festival season, and the references it is pulled from, it is a far cry from the maximalist 2015 glitter era! With festivals being a  complete escape from reality, I love to see the incorporation of colour and glitter which you don’t see every day. After all, for one weekend a year you’re in a field with no phone signal and thousands of strangers, why not let loose?

I’m going to take you through some of the festival looks I’ll be recreating this Bank Holiday weekend and my favourite MYKITCO tools to do them with. Let’s go!

Coloured lash:

For anyone who is a little scared to be bold with colour, a coloured lash is a great place to start. I love a cobalt blue lash with a bronzy makeup as I feel it brings out the warm tones. For any lash, the 1.25 PRO - MY LASH GROOMER is the perfect brush, however, for a colourful lash it is amazing! The fan shape helps to coat every single lash as well as the ‘teeth’ of the brush getting in between each hair to lift the lashes.

Bright blush:

It goes without saying that blush is the trend of the season. There are few different ways to create a colourful blush look but my absolute favourite is using blush as a highlighter. This is a big trend we saw on the editorial 00s runways but in 2018, Rihanna brought it back for the Fenty x Puma show. This is the perfect way to stay on trend whilst pushing the beauty boundaries! For this look, I would use two brushes. I’d first apply a cream blush with the 0.21 MY FLAWLESS FACE small, the super soft synthetic fibres lay down cream products seamlessly. I’d then enhance the colour with a powder blush using the 0.24 PRO - MY BLUSH AND POLISHER, the long, flexible fibres of this brush allow for ultimate control and are perfect for dusting product over the cheekbones and cheeks.

Rockstars girlfriend makeup:

Hey if colour isn’t your thing, then there’s the ever-chic rockstars girlfriend makeup! Characterised by the dark smoky eyes to cover up last night's sins, this makeup is the ultimate lived-in look. With an air of I woke up like this, this makeup should sit at the intersection between undone and polished. My ultimate festival go-to tools are the MYKITCO TO GO! brushes. They are designed to be lightweight (a god-send for when you are lugging your bags up a muddy hill!), and all six brushes are also super versatile so you have everything you need for this perfectly imperfect makeup!

Thanks for reading everyone. Have a fun and safe rest of the festival season!
